On March 23, 2020, Toyota Motor announced that it will temporarily suspend production on seven lines at five of its plants in Japan. The suspension is in response to declining demand caused by the global coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
The suspension will begin on April 3, 2020. Affected facilities include the Takaoka and Tsutsumi plants in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture; the Tahara plant in Tahara City; the Miyata plant of Toyota Motor Kyushu in Miyawaka City, Fukuoka Prefecture; and the Hamura plant of Hino Motors, a Toyota group company.
