Ricoh announced on April 20, 2020, that it will start production of face shields at the Ricoh Atsugi Plant in Atsugi city, Kanagawa Prefecture, to support medical sites for COVID-19. The company uses 3D printers and molds to produce a total of 8,000 face shields, 1,000 in April and 7,000 in May, and provides them free of charge to 57 medical institutions designated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare as designated medical institutions for infectious diseases. Provide to institutions free of charge.
Ricoh has already begun production of face shields at its manufacturing base in the UK, and provides 40,000 shields per week. Ricoh considers expanding similar efforts to production sites in the world.
