On October 4th, 2017, Iwata Tool unveiled “Open Garage” to the press. Open Garage was built at the end of last year. The old factory building was remodeled. The floor area is 300 square meters, and the first floor is used as an Open Garage, and the second floor is for employee cafeteria and cafe (= photo).
Mr. Masanao Iwata, president of the Iwata Tool said, “We would like local children, students, and others to learn machine tools. They usually don’t have chance to see machine tool”.
A total of 10 machine tools were installed in the garages, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders. Visitors can try machining experience. 3D printer and robots were installed in the cafes on the second floor. The appeal of an Open Garage is that visitors can experience not only cutting, but also various kinds of manufacturing.
The company also got a lot of input from local students in establishing the garage. “The starting point of the project is to increase the number of people who will be involved in manufacturing in the future. We have obtained innovative ideas like science cafes,” President Mr. Iwata said.
