On September 2, Okuma announced the completion of its new logistics hub, the “Okuma PDC,” built within the company’s Kani Plant in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture. The facility was jointly developed with group company Nippon Seiki Shokai (Komaki, Aichi; President: Osamu Ishimaru). The new hub aims to enhance productivity and profitability within the Okuma Group while addressing anticipated labor shortages and rising logistics costs in the sector.
The two-story facility has a total floor area of 14,000 m² and required a total investment of JPY 3 billion, funded by Nihon Seiki Shokai. It is equipped with AI-powered logistics robots that automate material handling tasks, enabling a 30% reduction in workforce requirements compared with conventional operations while also improving working conditions for employees.
In addition to logistics functions, the hub features sub-unit assembly capabilities. By expanding the scope of unit production, Okuma expects to shorten production lead times by 10%. The consolidation of previously scattered warehouse functions into a single hub will improve delivery efficiency and contribute to reducing Scope 3 CO₂ emissions across the supply chain.
