Hamamatsu Photonics announced on June 20, 2019 that it would construct a new factory in Shingai Factory in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka prefecture. The investment amount is about 6.5 billion yen and the total floor space is about 15,000 square meters. It will start operation in October 2020. Three types of products will be manufactured in the new factory: optical semiconductor elements used for automobile sensors, X-ray image sensors for radiological examinations, and flat panel sensors. The manufacturing processes for optical semiconductor sensors are currently separated by Shingai Factory and affiliated companies and integrate into the new factory. The productivity will increase by labor saving and automation. The production capacity will be 25 billion yen in annual sales.
