Aisin AW determined to establish a new plant in the U.S. for transmissions of SUVs and electric vehicles

May 17, 2019

Aisin AW, a subsidiary of Aisin Seiki, has recently decided to expand its manufacturing site in North Carolina to strengthen its automatic transmission business.

The investment is up to about $400 million. In September 2021, Aisin AW will begin manufacturing automatic transmission (AT) for SUVs and hybrid transmissions for electric vehicles. An annual production capacity is around 200,000 units.

Aisin AW plans to hire about 900 new employees.

Aisin AW established AW North Carolina in North Carolina in 1998 as the first U.S. manufacturing site. A total of approximately 6.7 million rear-wheel drive (RWD) and front-wheel drive (FWD) transmissions have been produced there.

Aisin AW intends to enhance its competitiveness by increasing production capacity for the transmission of SUVs and electric vehicles, whose demand is expected to increase in the U.S.
