On March 9, 2018, Mazda and Toyota Motors announced the establishment of a joint venture, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA (MTMUS), in Alabama.
MTMUS will manufacture Toyota’s Corolla models as well as all new Mazda models, for the North American region, each producing 150,000 vehicles a year.
Aiming to start operation in 2021, the two companies will invest about $1.6 billion to establish the new company. Masashi Aihara, the executive officer of Mazda, was appointed president of the new company, and Hironori Kagohashi, the managing director of Toyota Motors, was appointed vice president.
