METI collaborates with major auto associations to prepare for prolonged disruption

On February 20, 2020, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced the establishment of the Automotive Council for Coronavirus Countermeasures. The new council was formed in cooperation with the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and the Japan Auto Parts Industries Association.

The goal of the council is to coordinate a joint response among automakers, auto parts suppliers, and the government to address the potential impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the automotive supply chain.

Focus on epidemic control and financial support

The council will share key industry issues related to epidemic control, supply chain continuity, and logistics. In addition, the three parties will consider financial measures such as securing cash flow in the event of prolonged disruption.
