On March 24, 2020, Toyota Motor and NTT announced the signing of a capital and business alliance to collaborate on smart city initiatives. As part of the agreement, each company will invest 200 billion yen in the other, strengthening their partnership through mutual shareholding.
The goal of the alliance is to jointly develop a smart city infrastructure that connects entire urban areas via the Internet using cutting-edge technologies.
Toyota and NTT plan to build a “Smart City Platform” that creates value across a wide range of domains, including people, mobility, businesses, and infrastructure. The platform will first be implemented in Woven City, a smart city project located in the Higashi-Fuji area of Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and also in the Shinagawa area of Minato-ku, Tokyo. Future expansion to other cities is also planned.
