Mitsubishi Electric announced on June 11, 2020, that it will acquire a part of the lands and buildings of Sharp’s Fukuyama Plant in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture and establish a manufacturing base for power semiconductors. The investment amount is about 20 billion yen, and the total floor area is about 46,500 square meters. The new manufacturing base will start operation in November 2021.
Power semiconductors are useful for controlling automotive parts electrically. Therefore, it is expected that the demand for power semiconductors will increase globally as EVs spread.
The company will respond to increasing demand by expanding its production capacity for power semiconductors.
