Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Association(JMTBA)announced the machine tool order amount of November on December 22th, 2020. Total amount of orders in October was 88.6 billion yen, increased by 7.9% from the previous month. Domestic order decreased by 6.4% to 27.0 billion yen, and foreign order increased by 15.6% to 61.6 billion yen.
Total amount of Japan’s machine tool orders has been recovering, especially for external demand. The order received in November exceeded 85 billion yen for the first time in 11 months.
The year-on-year increased for the first time in 26 months. Japan’s machine tool orders in November recovered the same level as before COVID-19 infection spreading.
Domestic demand has decreased for the second straight month from the previous month. By industry, orders from automobiles decreased from the previous month, and 7 out of 11 industries decreased from the previous month. Because of COVID-19 spreading again in Japan, machine tool orders seem to stagnate.
External demand exceeded 60 billion yen for the first time in 16 months. In addition to receiving favorable orders from China, orders from South Korea, Taiwan, and India also reached the highest level in 2020.
Orders from Europe exceeded 10 billion yen for the first time in nine months, and orders from North America also exceeded 16 billion yen for the first time in eight months. There were signs of recovery in each region.
