Toyota Motor announced on September 7, 2021 that it will invest a total of 1.5 trillion yen in battery development and battery production by 2030.
Now, it is a big issue all over the world to achieve a carbon neutral society. Toyota Motor works on expanding the lineup of hybrid vehicles (HVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs), electric vehicles (EVs), and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) in order to achieve carbon neutral society. According to Toyota, the company will sell 8 million units EVs by 2030. EVs and FCVs account for 2 million units of the total 8 million units.
Toyota hastened to strengthen its battery development system and production system according to the spread of EVs. There are five battery development concepts: safety, long service life, high level of quality, affordable, high-quality products, and high-level performance. Toyota will develop a security battery that meets these five concepts. Toyota will also take on the challenge of developing next-generation lithium-ion batteries such as all-solid-state batteries.
