Tungaloy introduces AddY-axisTurn for efficient O.D. turning with multitasking machines

Tungaloy has launched AddY-axisTurn, an innovative turning tool designed to improve outer diameter (O.D.) machining efficiency on multitasking machines and turning centers equipped with a Y axis.

New turning concept using the Y axis

AddY-axisTurn introduces a new O.D. turning method by utilizing the live Y-axis turret’s off-center functionality. Unlike conventional turning tools that align with the X axis, this tool positions the insert in line with the Y axis at the front end of the toolholder. This design enables the cutting edge to rotate and reach the optimal entry angle for the workpiece surface.

Multiple operations with a single tool

The AddY-axisTurn system allows forward and backward longitudinal turning, profiling, and face turning—all in one setup. This reduces the need for multiple tools, minimizes tool changeover time, and increases machine uptime, resulting in greater productivity.

Improved chip control and tool life

With the insert’s rake face oriented downward, chips are directed away from the cutting zone, helping to prevent chip accumulation and damage to the workpiece. This ensures a more stable and cleaner machining process.

High-performance insert and quick-change interface

The AddY-axisTurn toolholder is compatible with the TungCap C6 quick-change system and uses 3C-TCMT..TM inserts from the AddMultiTurn series. These inserts are optimized for multi-directional medium to rough turning. The standard T9215 grade offers an excellent balance of wear and fracture resistance, ideal for machining steel with extended tool life.
