The exhibitor line-up for MECHATRONICS TECHNOLOGY JAPAN (MECT) 2023, one of the largest machine tool shows in Japan of this year, has been announced. According to a June 16 announcement, 492 exhibitors will participate in the show with 2103 booths. This is the largest MECT ever held, both in terms of the number of exhibitors and the size of the event. Expectations are high that the show will help reverse the downturn in domestic demand.
MECT2023 will be held from October 18 to 21, 2023, occupying the entire exhibition hall of Port Messe Nagoya in Nagoya City. News Digest Publishing, the show’s organizer, announced the scale of the event on June 16.
The show will have 492 exhibiting companies and organizations with 2103 booths. The application deadline was originally set for February this year, but it was brought forward and closed on December 6, 2022, as the number of applications had reached the capacity of the venue. This is an indication of the exhibitors’ high expectations for MECT.
The Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Association (JMTBA) announced that total machine tool orders received in May 2023 decreased 22.1% year-on-year (YoY) to 119.523 billion yen. Domestic demand also declined for the first time in three months, falling below 40 billion yen to 37.807 billion yen (-23.6% YoY). With the market slowing down, there are high expectations for MECT to help bottom out the sluggish domestic demand.
MECT2023 will use the new Hall 1 at Port Messe Nagoya, which opened last year, for the first time. Besides the new Hall 1, many companies and organizations will also exhibit in Exhibition Halls 2 and 3.
The Chubu region of Japan, where MECT is held, is a region where manufacturing industries such as the automotive industry are thriving, attracting not only large companies but also small and medium-sized enterprises. One of the unique features of MECT is that many of the visitors to the show are actual workers at the manufacturing site.
Since the 2013 show, MECT has attracted more than 90,000 visitors over the four days of the show. In 2021, the number of visitors was only 69,000, partly due to the impact of COVID-19, but it was still a valuable opportunity for visitors to exchange information directly and find ways to address the issues their companies are facing and the new concerns that have arisen during the pandemic.
The theme of this year’s show is “FEEL IT!” Visitors will be able to experience the power of machine tools in action at MECT 2023.
