NACHI expands “Burrless Series” for non-ferrous metals, aims for market penetration at JIMTOF 2024

October 24, 2024

On November 5, NACHI-FUJIKOSHI will launch a global release of its expanded “Burrless series” of cutting tools, designed to minimize burrs during machining processes. The new additions, which address the growing demand for aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous metals in electric vehicles (EVs) and other industries, will be showcased for the first time at the 32nd Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF 2024). Toshihiro Hoshiba, Technical Manager of the company’s Cutting Tool Division, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We aim to use JIMTOF as a springboard for their widespread adoption.”

In December 2023, NACHI introduced its “Burrless Series” of cutting tools worldwide. These tools were developed through a comprehensive analysis of burr formation mechanisms, resulting in minimal burrs during machining. Hoshiba reflected on the impact of the series’ initial launch: “The simultaneous release of three products – the ‘AquaREVO Drills Burrless’ for reducing exit burrs in hole drilling, the ‘SG Spiral Taps Burrless’ for burr-free internal threading, and the ‘AquaREVO Mills Burrless’ for reducing upper surface burrs in side milling – made a significant impact on the market.”

At JIMTOF 2024, NACHI will introduce four new products, including the “DLC-REVO Drills Burrless,” part of its non-ferrous Burrless series. The newly developed DLC-REVO coating provides the sharpness required for Burrless performance. This coating is also applied to the “DLC-REVO Mills Burrless,” providing superior performance with the same cutting conditions as existing tools.

The series will also include the “AquaREVO Mills Trimming Burrless,” a cost-effective trimming tool designed for bottom-edge-free trimming, and the “SG Spiral Taps Long Shank Burrless,” ideal for vertical wall machining. These new tools will be introduced to the market at JIMTOF 2024, where the company will actively promote their adoption.

At JIMTOF 2024, half of NACHI’s booth will be dedicated to the Burrless series. A workshop focusing on non-ferrous Burrless tools will be held on November 7 at 1:00 pm in Room 605 of the conference building. Noting the strong response to last year’s burrless tools for steel machining, Hoshiba said, “The response has exceeded our expectations. We want to provide solutions for those struggling with burr formation, and we’ve now zeroed in on our true target customers.”

According to Hoshiba, over 70% of the successful applications of Burrless drills are in cross-hole machining, with key markets in automotive, hydraulic equipment, and construction machinery. The Burrless series has been developed through an iterative process of hypothesis and validation, continually feeding insights back into product development.

Recently, the “AquaREVO Drills Burrless” received the Technical Achievement Award from the Japan Cutting & Wear-resistant Tool Association (JTA), signaling the growing industry recognition of the series’ capabilities. “Once customers try it, they can’t go back. The key is to get people to know and use our products,” said Hoshiba. The Burrless series is expected to attract considerable attention at JIMTOF 2024.
