“EXC100L+”

Screw-less drive with nanometer-level accuracy Sodick has developed the “EXC100L+,” an ultra-precision wire-cut EDM driven by linear motors. By combining its proprietary ceramic air slider with linear motor drive, Sodick has achieved a screw-less drive system. Air is supplied into the gap between the guide and slider, enabling non-contact sliding that eliminates friction, wear, and heat generation. This structure achieves a minimum drive unit of 0.01 μm (10 nanometers), supporting ultra-precision machining at the nanometer level.

Energy efficiency through inverter-controlled fluid management

The new model features inverter-controlled flushing, circulation, and fluid delivery for the machining fluid. By detecting flow rates, the system optimizes these functions in real time according to machining conditions. An inverter-type cooling system directly manages the machining fluid temperature in the machining tank, ensuring both stable high-precision machining and improved energy efficiency. As a result, power consumption is reduced by up to 25% compared with the previous “EXC100L.”

Standard features for ultra-fine wire machining

The EXC100L+ comes standard with an automatic wire threading function compatible with wire electrodes as thin as 0.02 mm in diameter, enabling reliable processing of workpieces with complex geometries. The machine addresses ultra-precision machining needs in the electronics, semiconductor, precision instrument, and medical device industries—including manufacturing of MT ferrules used to connect optical fibers.
