Sodick forms capital and business alliance with Italian metal 3D printer manufacturer

May 17, 2024

Sodick, a Japanese manufacturer of electrical discharge machining (EDM) equipment and multi-functional 3D printers, announced on April 1 that it has entered into a capital and business alliance agreement with Prima Additive, an Italian manufacturer of metal 3D printers. Sodick will acquire a 9.5% minority share in Prima Additive.

Prima Additive develops, manufactures and sells metal 3D printers using not only the Power Bed Fusion (PEF) process adopted by Sodick, but also the Directed Energy Deposition (DED) process. With its development capabilities, the company has a wide range of applications in numerous industries such as aerospace, automotive, jewelry, etc. In Europe, Prima Additive has a network of customers, universities and research institutes, as well as high brand recognition in the 3D printer manufacturing business.

Both companies will use this alliance as an opportunity to expand their product offerings. By developing applications in new areas and expanding their distribution networks, the two companies aim to further enhance their competitiveness in key markets such as Japan, Europe and the United States.
