DMG MORI held the Iga Innovation Day 2019, open house, for five days from July 9 to 13, 2019. The company launched a compact vertical machining center (MC) “DMP70” with a table size of 840×420mm as a new model.
The company proposed the automation of the machining of automobile parts by combining the “WH 3 Cell” arm-type robot with automatic workpiece loading system. Many elemental technologies were also presented.
A vertical MC attracted attention at the venue, which utilize topology optimization technology to increase the rigidity of machinery while reducing the weight by more than 100 kilograms. A person in charge said, “there are still many possibilities for applications, such as designing only rigidity to be extremely high.” Software OPTOMET was showed off in an additive manufacturing where the DMG MORI is good at. It can automatically calculate the optimum values of various parameters such as laser strength and feed rate. It is possible to improve the surface roughness extremely in addition to setting the mixing ratio of the materials.
The cleaning technology in the machining room was also presented, using artificial intelligence (AI). The vision sensor detects where the chips are accumulated, and coolant is out to them. Especially for materials such as aluminum, which is likely to scatter chips. The more cleaning technology is used, the more the accuracy enhances since it has AI. In addition, there is an area where visitors have experience the next-generation communication standard “5G”. Approximately 10,000 people visited open house for five days.
