From July 9 to 13, 2019, DMG MORI held its Iga Innovation Day 2019 open house event. During the five-day exhibition, the company unveiled its new compact vertical machining center, the DMP70, featuring a table size of 840 × 420 mm.
As part of its proposal to automate machining of automotive components, DMG MORI demonstrated the WH 3 Cell, an arm-type robot equipped with an automatic workpiece loading system. The exhibition also highlighted many elemental technologies that support advanced manufacturing.
A vertical MC using topology optimization technology was showcased. This technology enables the machine structure to achieve higher rigidity while reducing weight by over 100 kg. According to a company representative, “There are still many possibilities, such as designing machines to have extremely high rigidity in specific areas.”
In the field of additive manufacturing, the company presented OPTOMET, software that automatically calculates optimal parameters such as laser power and feed rate. In addition to improving surface roughness, it allows for setting and optimizing the material mixing ratio.
DMG MORI also introduced AI-based cleaning technology inside the machining chamber. A vision sensor detects chip accumulation and sprays coolant to those areas. This technology is particularly effective for machining materials like aluminum, which tend to scatter chips. The more frequently the system operates, the more it improves machining accuracy thanks to AI learning.
The venue also featured an interactive 5G technology area, where visitors could experience next-generation communication standards firsthand.
Over the course of five days, approximately 10,000 visitors attended the open house, highlighting strong industry interest in DMG MORI’s latest innovations.
