Shimadzu introduces ultrasonic optical flaw detector for aircraft inspection

February 6, 2020

New solution for aircraft manufacturing and maintenance

Shimadzu released the MIV-500 ultrasonic optical flaw detector on February 5, 2020. The new device is designed for non-destructive inspection in both aircraft manufacturing and maintenance processes.

Visualizes surface-level defects without removing paint

The MIV-500 features Shimadzu’s proprietary ultrasonic optical flaw detection technology, which visualizes the propagation of ultrasonic waves. This allows for the identification of surface and near-surface abnormalities on aircraft structures and components.

Unlike conventional ultrasonic testing equipment, the MIV-500 does not require the removal of paint or coatings before inspection, significantly improving work efficiency and reducing preparation time.
