Shimadzu announced on March 4, 2020 that it has started development of coronavirus gene detection reagent kit. In the conventional coronavirus test, a mucus of the throat is collected, and a PCR method for culturing and detecting a virus-specific genetic material contained therein is examined. The kit developed by the company eliminates the process of extracting genetic material, which significantly reduces inspection time. Shimadzu promptly tries to establish a supply system which can offers tens of thousands of inspections per month.
