May 12, 2020

Acquisition of CRJ program strengthens commercial aircraft operations

On May 7, 2020, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) announced that it will acquire the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) business of Bombardier, a leading Canadian aircraft manufacturer. The transfer of business is scheduled for June 1.

Through this acquisition, MHI will take over the CRJ program’s maintenance, customer support, refurbishment, marketing, sales functions, and type certification.

New group “MHIRJ” to manage the CRJ business

From June 1, operations will begin under a newly established corporate entity named MHI RJ Aviation Group (MHIRJ). This move aims to strengthen MHI’s presence in the commercial aviation sector. MHIRJ will provide full support for the CRJ series while also preparing to offer services for future aircraft such as the Mitsubishi SpaceJet.
