Nidec, a leading motor maker announced on February 5, 2021 that its Board of Directors has approved a resolution to acquire: the shares of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool, a company that designs, manufactures, and sells machine tools, cutting tools, and related products.
Acquisition price has not been disclosed. Nidec will acquire all shares of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool by May 2021.
Nidec has developed the electric vehicle traction unit “E-Axle” for electric vehicles and is focusing on expanding sales to the electric vehicle market. One of the important parts of E-Axle is the gear. Since Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool has strengths in gear cutting machine. Nidec will incorporate the technology and know-how of gear cutting machines and gear machining with this acquisition. Nidec also aims for synergistic effects with the existing press machine business.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool is a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and manufactures and sells machine tools such as gear cutting machines, double column machining centers, and micro milling machine. The company name of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool will be changed after the acquisition, but the current customer support system and contact information will continue to be available.
