News Digest Publishing, the company that publishes SEISANZAI Japan, announced its forecast for machine tool orders in Japan in 2022. SEISANZAI Japan has published forecasts for machine tool orders and production for 2022 in Part 1 and Part 2 of this article. In this time, it will introduce the forecast for imports and exports.
The export amount for 2022 is expected to be 700 billion yen, the same amount as the previous year. Although demand continues to be solid, COVID-19 disaster has not yet been resolved, and issues such as the confrontation between the U.S. and China, which had been a concern before the disaster, have not yet been resolved. There are also concerns that when COVID-19 disaster is over, the unprecedented accumulation of outstanding debt will have a negative impact on the global economy as a whole.
The Imports in 2022 are expected to increase to 75 billion yen, up 11.9% from the previous year. As domestic demand recovers, the market for imported machines, especially high-end European-made machine tools, is expected to recover. However, if COVID-19 outbreak occurs again and entry restrictions are tightened, import operations could be delayed and the import machinery market could cool down.
