On March 9, 2018, Mazda and Toyota Motors announced the establishment of Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA (MTMUS), a joint venture in Alabama.
MTMUS will produce Toyota’s Corolla models as well as all-new Mazda models, for the North American region, each producing 150,000 units annually.
The two companies will invest about $1.6 billion to establish the new company, which is expected to begin operation in 2021. Masashi Aihara, the executive officer of Mazda, has been named president of the new company, while Hironori Kagohashi, the managing director of Toyota Motors, has been named vice president.
