Sumitomo becomes exclusive distributor for AI unicorn company

Sumitomo signed an exclusive distributorship agreement in Japan with Dexterity, a U.S. unicorn company (ventures that reach a valuation of $1 billion without being listed on the stock market), in September 2022.

Dexterity is a company that develops software for robots, computer vision, and control technology utilizing artificial intelligence (AI). Since its establishment in 2017, the company has built up a track record, mainly for leading logistics companies, and has received orders for more than 10,000 units. Sumitomo intends to combine the hardware to be procured domestically with Dexterity’s software and will offer it to customers through subscription-type services and other forms. The target is to sell 1,500 units by 2026. In November, Sumitomo will open a demonstration center in the Kanto area, where robots equipped with Dexterity’s software will be on permanent display.
