The “Japan SMEs Tech & Services 2022” was held at Tokyo Big Sight from December 14 to 16, 2022. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Japan exhibited their products, services, and technologies newly developed under the “Monozukuri (manufacturing) Subsidy Program” of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency (SMEA). More than 500 companies exhibited and about 10,000 people visited the exhibition.
About 200 companies in the metalworking industry exhibited. Kowakk, which manufactures parts for press dies, exhibited sample workpieces of sponge material cut by a machining center (=photo). The company applied its processing technology for cushioning materials to handle workpieces after pressing. The president of the company commented, “We studied processing conditions such as how to use the tool to cut the workpiece so that it would not fray. We were pleased to receive an offer for an unexpected application.” Fu-Tech, which specializes in precision machining, also demonstrated its improved quality control capabilities by applying digital technology to general-purpose lathe operations, which are often performed by human operators. Seikoo promoted its friction welding technology for dissimilar materials.
