JTEKT has signed an agreement with Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, for the regional demonstration of a direct carbon dioxide (CO2) capture system, the company announced on December 26. Using CCUS (Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage), a system that prevents CO2 generated by corporate activities from being emitted into the atmosphere, the CO2 will be converted into a resource and reused at Okazaki City’s waste treatment facility. As a first step, the CO2 emitted at the Okazaki Plant in the same city will be converted into a resource through the use of CCUS. Through this verification experiment, the company aims to achieve carbon neutrality and improve the local environment, thereby realizing the city’s “Zero Carbon City Concept”.
