With many FA-related exhibitions taking place in Japan and around the world this year, the editorial board of SEISANZAI Japan has outlined the schedule for this year’s FA-related exhibitions (as of February 2024). Key events include “ROBOT TECHNOLOGY JAPAN (RTJ 2024)” in July, “International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS 2024)” in September, and “The 32nd Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF 2024)” in November. Last year, against the backdrop of China’s economic slowdown and rising geopolitical risks, the global machine tool industry also showed signs of stagnation. After the COVID-19 pandemic, exhibitions that are a hybrid of face-to-face and online have become more common. Expectations have been high for each exhibition, which has shifted to a new normal, to serve as a catalyst to drive demand.

The exhibition specializes in industrial robots and automation systems used in production sites and distribution centers. Held in Aichi Prefecture, which has a high concentration of manufacturing industries, the show also features a large number of machine tool users. The previous show, which was held for the first time, gathered 202 companies and organizations (1,096 booths) and attracted 41,880 visitors.

JIMTOF is the largest machine tool exhibition in Japan. It is one of the four largest machine tool exhibitions in the world and is held in even-numbered years. The previous exhibition, the largest ever, had a total exhibition area of approximately 118,000 m2, 1,087 companies and organizations (5,618 booths), and 114,185 visitors.

SIMTOS is a machine tool exhibition held in South Korea every two years in even-numbered years. 854 companies from 29 countries and regions exhibited at the previous show in 2022, which attracted about 80,000 visitors despite the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, about 1,300 companies from 35 countries and regions are scheduled to exhibit.

IMTS is the largest machine tool exhibition in the United States. Also known as the Chicago Show, it is held in even-numbered years and is one of the four largest machine tool exhibitions in the world. The last show, held in 2022, attracted 1,816 exhibitors and 86,307 attendees, even during the pandemic. IMTS 2024, like last time, will be an in-person/online hybrid.
