Star Micronics develops new Swiss-type automatic lathe with focus on usability

Swiss-Type Automatic Lathe “SB-20RII”

Star Micronics has developed the “SB-20RII”, a Swiss-type automatic lathe with a maximum machining diameter of 20 mm. As part of its flagship “SB Series”, the model has been redesigned and will be available from June next year. The SB-20RII enhances basic performance while emphasizing operator usability by incorporating a series of software support features.

A high-rigidity tool post with the company’s unique “slanted slide guide surface structure” is employed for the tool post for front-side machining. This feature reduces the load generated during cutting, allowing long hours of continuous machining while maintaining precision. In addition, it incorporates a mechanism that allows the operator to switch between guide bush and non-guide bush configurations depending on the total length of the workpiece.

Star Micronics offers two models equipped with FANUC and Mitsubishi Electric NC controls. A dedicated mobile app for the Mitsubishi controller allows the machine’s operating status to be monitored from smartphones or tablets. Meanwhile, the FANUC model offers an optional “EASY EDIT” feature that allows users to create programs by simply entering numerical values.
