Brother Industries has launched the “R450Xd2,” a new pallet-changing vertical machining center (VMC) in its compact machine tool “SPEEDIO” series.
The new model features improved spindle performance over the previous model, along with new functions that contribute to higher productivity.
The maximum spindle speed of the standard spindle has been increased to 12,000 rpm to reduce cycle time. A new high-speed spindle option with a maximum speed of 20,000 rpm has also been added, enabling higher-efficiency small-diameter drilling. In addition, the 10,000 rpm high-torque spindle features an enlarged spindle bearing diameter for improved rigidity, making it suitable for machining a wide range of materials, including steel and difficult-to-cut materials.
The machine features a new function that uses touch probe measurement to compensate for thermal displacement, reducing the time required for warm-up runs and repeated measurements. The machine maintains stable accuracy without the need for a warm-up run, helping to shorten cycle time.
The machine also features a function that prevents chips from entering between the spindle and tool during tool changes. The system detects chip ingress without sensors and temporarily stops machining to prevent defective workpieces from being produced.
The series also includes the “R650Xd2,” which offers an X-axis travel of 650 mm.
