Matsuura announces MX-850T 5-axis multitasking machining center for large workpieces

Matsuura announced the “MX-850T,” a 5-axis multitasking machining center (MC) for large workpieces, on September 3.
The MX-850T is the second model in the “MX-T series” of 5-axis multitasking MCs that combine 5-axis machining and turning in a single machine. Building on the operability, machining capability, and cost performance that earned high praise for the first model, the “MX-520T,” the MX-850T significantly enhances machining capability to meet market demand for machining larger workpieces.

Large workpiece capacity expands machining range

The MX-850T accommodates workpieces up to 850 mm in diameter, 450 mm in height, and 500 kg in weight. Compared with the MX-520T, the machinable workpiece volume has been increased by approximately 3.3 times and the maximum workpiece weight by 2.5 times, enabling process consolidation in a single setup even for medium- and large-sized components.

High-rigidity turning spindle supports high-precision machining

The turning spindle adopts a direct-drive motor with a maximum rotational speed of 800 rpm and a maximum torque of 600 Nm, delivering high turning performance. The spindle nose features the “HSK-T63” spindle taper for multitasking machines. A high-rigidity brake mechanism is also included as standard, supporting high-precision turning. Despite the inclusion of the brake mechanism, the spindle nose diameter has been kept compact, ensuring excellent accessibility during milling operations.

For chip disposal, a hinge-type lift-up conveyor is installed directly beneath the machining table as standard. A chip removal nozzle with an optimized coolant discharge method is also adopted, enabling stable chip disposal even during extended unmanned operation.

Automation system enables longer unmanned operation

For automation, the “Tower Pallet System PC7” has been newly developed for use with both the MX-850T and the existing 5-axis MC “MX-850.” Within the same installation footprint as the conventional “Floor Pallet System PC4,” pallet capacity has been increased from four to seven, enabling longer unmanned operation and improved productivity without requiring additional floor space.

The MX-850T will make its world debut at the 33rd Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF), opening in Tokyo on October 26, with sales scheduled to start in 2027.
