On November 20, 2017, Mitsubishi Materials announced its participation in OMIC R&D, a collaborative research institute located in Oregon, USA. The institution was established in June 2017, led by Boeing, six private-sector companies in Oregon, and three universities.
OMIC R&D promotes joint research and development in metal processing technologies through partnerships among industry, government, and academia. The initiative aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the local manufacturing industry.
Mitsubishi Materials will supply cutting tools and define machining conditions required for research at the facility. Through this partnership, the company aims to enhance its presence in the North American market as a cemented carbide tool manufacturer.
