On November 29, 2017, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) co-hosted the “Partnership Enhanced Seminar” in Nagoya City. The seminar gathered around 100 participants from manufacturers and business partners in both countries. Experts emphasized the potential for market development in third countries through cooperation between Japanese and Taiwanese companies.
Yasufumi Katou from JETRO’s Overseas Survey Division provided an overview of Taiwan’s economic landscape. He noted that Taiwan’s machine tool industry boasts the highest production output per unit area in the world and serves as a prime example of Taiwan’s industrial clustering.
Noriko Kawamura, chief researcher at Mitsubishi Research Institute, presented case studies of business collaboration in Vietnam and Laos, where Japanese and Taiwanese companies have established strong presences. Joyce Shih, senior project manager at TAITRA, introduced the support mechanisms available for Japanese and Taiwanese companies expanding into ASEAN markets.
Shintaro Mine, Chairman of JETRO Nagoya Trade Information Center, commented, “Japan and Taiwan maintain non-governmental practical relations and enjoy a strong relationship. I hope both sides will seize future business opportunities.”
