Yamaha Motor announced on January 21, 2020 that it has signed a contract with Tokyo Robotics, a startup which grew out of Waseda University. The companies have agreed that Yamaha Motor will become the convertible bondholder of Tokyo Robotics, and will also provide investment and technology.
Tokyo Robotics has strengths in joint flexibility technology, which is essential for increasing the sophistication of collaborative robot. Yamaha Motor has capabilities in achieving mass production which delivers high quality, low cost, and timely supply through its extensive manufacturing experience. Yamaha Motor intends to build on Tokyo Robotics’ strengths in the collaborative robot field to expand the scale and coverage of its industrial robotics business.
