IHI increases production of turbochargers for gasoline engines in the US

IHI announced on January 28, 2020 that it will expand the plant of the “IHI Turbo America” production base for turbochargers in North America. The company will increase production of vehicle refueling equipment, turbochargers for gasoline engines. The total floor area of the factory is 34,200 square meters, which is about three times the size of the conventional one.

In the North American market, demand of turbochargers to downsize engines for gasoline-powered vehicles has been increasing. The company will start mass production of turbochargers for gasoline engines in Fiscal Year of 2016 to respond to the demand. IHI Turbo America’s turbocharger production capacity enhances from about 200,000 in Fiscal Year of 2018 to about 1.5 million in Fiscal Year of 2021 through this expansion of the plant.
