Yamaha Motor announced on February 4, 2020 that it developed electric motor units for four-wheeled vehicles including EV, and would commission prototype development. Yamaha Motor will respond to prototype development of small, high-output electric motor units by leveraging the casting and machining technologies cultivated in engine development.
New developed motor unit is an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) with a maximum output of 35 to 200 kW. Two cooling methods are available with water cooling and oil cooling. The maximum output and cooling system will be tailored to customer needs.
