Mitsubishi Electric announced on February 18, 2020 that it would complete a new plant for satellites at Kamakura Works in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture on February 19, which would enable integrated production from satellite assembly to testing. The investment amount is about 11 billion yen and the total floor area is about 13,000 square meters. The new plant will manufacture satellite systems and satellite on-board components. The company will increase the parallel production capacity of satellites from 10 to 18 to meet the growing demand for domestic public satellites and domestic and foreign commercial communication satellites. Mitsubishi Electric aims to expand the space system business.
