Nikon announced on February 21, 2020, that it signed a capital and business alliance agreement with XTIA, a start-up company from Tokyo Institute of Technology which manufactures optical comb source. Based on the agreement, Nikon will undertake 800 million yen which is third-party allocation of shares by XTIA.
Nikon aims to establish a material processing business, and has been expanding sales of optical processing machines since 2019 as one of its measures. Nikon aims to develop an equipment that has a shape measurement function by combining XTIA’s original light source technology with Nikon’s technical capabilities and know-how.
