Sanyo Chemical Industries announced on March 2, 2020 that it will build a new plant for mass production of next-generation lithium-ion batteries called “all polymer battery”.
APB, a subsidiary of Sanyo Chemical Industries, has acquired land for a new plant in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture. The new plant has a site area of about 23,000 square meters and a total floor area of about 8,600 square meters. The new plant will start operation in 2021.
All polymer battery replaces the main components of the lithium-ion battery, such as the current collector, from metal to resin. Its original manufacturing process can reduce the number of steps compared to that of conventional lithium-ion batteries, reducing costs and lead time. The company aims to establish mass production technology for the world’s first all polymer battery commercialization.
