Suzuki Motor announced on March 23, 2020 that its subsidiary in Myanmar, Suzuki Thilawa Motor will build a new plant for automobiles. The investment amount is about 12 billion yen. The new plant will be built in in an industrial park located in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, southeast of Yangon.
Suzuki currently has two plants in Myanmar, producing four models: Carry, Ciaz, Ertiga, and Swift. The annual production capacity in Myanmar will increase to about 40,000 units, which is about three times the conventional capacity by operating the new plant. The new plant will start operation in September 2021.
