March 27, 2020

Production capacity to triple with ¥12 billion investment

Suzuki Motor announced on March 23, 2020 that its local subsidiary, Suzuki Thilawa Motor, will construct a new automobile manufacturing plant in Myanmar. The investment in the new facility is approximately 12 billion yen. It will be located in an industrial park within the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, southeast of Yangon.

Boosting production of four key models

Suzuki currently operates two plants in Myanmar, where it produces four models: the Carry, Ciaz, Ertiga, and Swift. With the new plant scheduled to begin operations in September 2021, the company’s annual production capacity in Myanmar is expected to increase to approximately 40,000 units—roughly three times its current capacity.
