JTEKT develops high durability bearings with low-viscosity lubricating oil

JTEKT announced on May 25, 2020 that it has developed a long-life bearing that has high durability even under low-viscosity lubricating oil. According to JTEKT, the viscosity of lubricating oils used in speed reducers has been lower in recent years as a measure to improve fuel efficiency and electricity costs of automobiles.

Low-viscosity lubricating oil has the advantage of reducing the torque by suppressing the stirring resistance of the bearing. However, due to the severe lubrication condition of the bearing, the durability get lower when used in high load and high vibration environment.

JTEKT has focused on bearing materials and heat treatment, and developed bearing which is 10 times more durable than conventional one. Mass production is scheduled to start in 2025.
