In July 2021, corporate alliance of research and development “MOOC (Monozukuri Only One Club)” including cutting tool maker Iwata Tool carried out the first occupational inoculation of COVID-19 vaccine. MOOC began vaccination in the workplace on July 8, 2021, and vaccinated about 1,000 employees, their families, and business partners of five companies with US Moderna vaccine.
MOOC members brought their technologies and ideas for efficient vaccination. For example, a robot system integrator, TRI ENGINEERING, used a 3D printer to model a jig that nurses use when they prepare vaccines. The jig helped reduce the burden of preparatory work for nurses.
Five companies, Iwata Tool, TRI ENGINEERING, NISSIN KIKO, Yuki Laboratory, and Meidaisha, are members of MOOC. All of them are small and medium-sized enterprises, but the conditions for occupational inoculation were met by working together with five companies. MOOC plans to provide a second occupational vaccination in early August 2021.
