EMO Milano 2021 opens with global exhibitors despite pandemic

October 4, 2021

Major metalworking trade show returns to Milan after six years

EMO Milano 2021, one of the world’s leading machine tool trade shows, opened today and will run for six days until October 9. The event is taking place at the Fiera Milano exhibition center in Milan, Italy. EMO alternates between Hannover, Germany (twice) and Milan (once) every three years, making this the first Milan edition in six years.

This year’s theme is “THE MAGIC WORLD OF METALWORKING.” The exhibition features more than 700 companies from 34 countries and regions. Although this is a sharp drop from EMO Milano 2015—which had around 1,600 exhibitors—the total exhibition area remains large at 110,000 square meters. The decline in exhibitor numbers is attributed to the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Japanese FA companies showcase new technologies

About 30 Japanese factory automation (FA) companies and organizations are participating through their European subsidiaries. These companies are showcasing their latest products, core technologies, and machining solutions to the European market.

Okuma, under the theme “FEEL THE MAGIC OF OKUMA,” is exhibiting several machine tools, including the global debut of the “MA-600HⅢ” horizontal machining center (MC).

Makino Milling Machine has set up a booth of over 600 square meters, where it is displaying six machine tools including the 5-axis machining center “a800Z.”

Despite pandemic-related challenges, EMO Milano 2021 is expected to support the recovery of the European manufacturing and machine tool markets.
