Okuma has developed the “MU-350V,” a new vertical 5-axis machining center. The machine is designed for small and medium-sized parts with diameters of 360 mm or less, for which demand for higher precision and increasingly complex geometries is growing across a wide range of industries, including automotive, medical devices, construction machinery, and industrial machinery.
The machine uses a gantry structure that has demonstrated stable accuracy in Okuma’s various vertical and 5-axis vertical machining centers. It comes standard with the “Thermo-Friendly Concept,” which automatically suppresses thermal displacement even in factory environments where ambient temperatures fluctuate, helping maintain high machining accuracy during extended operation. In addition, the “Five Tuning II” geometric error compensation technology automatically measures and compensates for geometric errors that affect 5-axis machining accuracy, helping users achieve the machine’s full 5-axis machining performance quickly and easily without specialized skills.
The machine achieves one of the smallest installation footprints in its class by optimally positioning the large-capacity automatic workpiece holder changer (AWC) and automatic tool changer (ATC). The standard AWC automatically loads and unloads workpiece holders carrying workpieces and jigs together as a set, making it easy to switch between different workpieces. The standard tool magazine holds up to 120 tools. Together, the AWC and ATC help automate high-mix, low-volume production.
