IMTS 2022 – Photo report

September 20, 2022

The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) 2022, the largest machine tool trade show in North America, was held for six days from September 12 to 17 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, USA. About 86,307 people registered to visit the show, and exhibitors agreed that they were impressed again with the value of the in-person exhibition. The U.S. economy faced a stagnation in orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, yet capital investment demand rebounded significantly from 2020 onward.

In response to the “real” exhibition held for the first time in four years, many visitors welcomed the in-person events rather than online, saying that they felt the economy was recovering, and that business discussions were more lively.

One of the key features of IMTS2022 was proposals to address the shortage of workers. In the U.S., labor shortage is an even more serious problem than in Japan. At the previous show, there were many exhibits of automation systems. In contrast, at this year’s show, there were many machine tool builders who returned to the basics and proposed to improve productivity by increasing cutting capacity, thereby reducing the need for manpower.

The South Building, where many machine tool builders exhibited, was particularly lively.

FANUC attracted visitors’ attention with a demonstration of an industrial robot that can easily swing a car around.

Heller, a leading German machine tool builder, collaborated with Mr. Titan Gilroy, who is well-known in the industry, to attract visitors.
