DMG MORI to acquire KURAKI

September 26, 2023

On September 6, DMG MORI announced that it is to acquire KURAKI (Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture; President: Hiroshi Yasukawa) effective at the end of October 2023. The purchase price is 4.5 billion yen. DMG MORI acquires 100% of the shares of KURAKI held by its parent company, KURABO INDUSTRIES, and brings KURAKI under the umbrella of the Group.

KURAKI was founded in 1949 and is strong in CNC horizontal boring and milling machines. DMG MORI, on the other hand, has a wide range of machine tool lines, but has not been involved in the production of CNC horizontal boring and milling machines. DMG MORI intends to strengthen its offensive in the aerospace, energy and heavy machinery industries, where demand for CNC horizontal boring and milling machines is expected to increase.

DMG MORI signed a distribution agreement with KURAKI in the United States in 2017, and last year the exclusive distribution agreement was extended to 32 states. Therefore, DMG MORI is familiar with KURAKI’s products and aims to further expand the demand for CNC horizontal boring and milling machines by incorporating automation and digitalization technologies, which are DMG MORI’s strengths.
