The Japan Industrial Vehicles Association (JIVA; Chairman: Takashi Mikogami, Chairman of Mitsubishi Logisnext) reported on September 12 the delivery record of automatic guided vehicle (AGV) systems for January to December 2022.
The total number of AGV systems shipped in 2022, including those for domestic and export markets, increased for the first time in three years to 821 systems, up 4.7% year-on-year. On the other hand, the number of units shipped decreased for the third consecutive year to 2,441, down 6.6% year-on-year. Overall, sales to overseas customers decreased, while the number of units shipped to domestic customers remained almost unchanged and the number of systems shipped increased.
In terms of vehicle guidance systems, the “magnetic” type accounted for 82.3% of the total. This continued to be the overwhelming percentage from the previous year. Among autonomous driving systems, “Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)” methods increased by 1.2% to 7.8% from 6.6% in the previous year, “Self-Position Detection” methods increased by 3.1% to 4.6% from 1.5% in the previous year, and “Laser Distance Measurement” methods decreased to 4.6% from 5.7% in the previous year.
