SMS, French industrial exhibition makes its first appearance in Japan

SMART MANUFACTURING SUMMIT BY GLOBAL INDUSTRIE (SMS), a specialized exhibition for the manufacturing industry, was held for three days from March 13 to 15 at the Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture (=photo).

The event has its roots in GLOBAL INDUSTRIE, one of the largest industrial exhibitions in Europe, held every March in France. This event crossed the ocean and landed in Japan for the first time as SMS.

At SMS, exhibitors related to the local manufacturing industry from Aichi Prefecture stood out. Yamazaki Mazak introduced the “FSW-460V,” a vertical FSW (friction stir welding) processing machine capable of high-speed, high-quality FSW and other products on panels, highlighting its latest technology to attract visitors. FUTAMURA MACHINES & TOOLS (Nagoya, Japan; President: Tadahiro Futamura), a manufacturer of rotary centers, attracted the attention of visitors with a reference exhibit of its newly developed “Work Driving Center”, which enables machining of both centers on hardened steel by fusing electro-deposited diamonds on the tips of the jaws.
