Hitachi announced on April 27 that it has signed a stock purchase agreement to acquire all of the shares of German system integrator MA micro automation for 71.5 million euros, with the transaction expected to be completed by the second half of 2024, subject to regulatory approvals in each country.
MA micro automation is a system integrator founded in 2003. Its main customers are medical device manufacturers, and its strength lies in the construction of automated systems for the production of medical parts, mainly contact lenses and in-vitro diagnostic consumables.
With this acquisition, Hitachi aims to expand its business in the medical field, particularly in the European market. Hitachi has acquired JR Automation in the United States in 2019 and has established Hitachi Automation (Tokyo, Japan; President: Miho Arai) in 2022 to handle the entire robotics system integration (SI) business. The global expansion of the robotics SI business, which has been strengthened in recent years, will be further accelerated.
Kazunobu Morita, Vice President and Executive Officer, CEO of Industrial Digital Business Unit of Hitachi, said, “MA Micro automation, which is based in Europe and provides robotics SI services with high technological capabilities, has joined our group. Together with JR Automation and Hitachi Automation, we intend to strengthen our global competitiveness”.
