The Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Association (JMTBA) released preliminary machine tool orders for June 2026. Total orders reached JPY 203.5 billion, up 15.0% MoM and up 52.8% YoY. Orders increased MoM for the first time in three months and YoY for the 12th consecutive month, surpassing JPY 200 billion for the first time.
Domestic orders totaled JPY 58.0 billion, up 28.0% MoM and up 45.5% YoY. Orders increased MoM for the first time in three months and YoY for the sixth consecutive month. Domestic demand exceeded JPY 55 billion for the first time in 48 months, supported by continued strength in data center and semiconductor manufacturing equipment sectors, alongside rising demand in aircraft, shipbuilding, and automotive.
Foreign orders totaled JPY 145.4 billion, up 10.5% MoM and up 56.0% YoY. Orders increased MoM for the first time in three months and exceeded JPY 140 billion for the first time in three months, surpassing the previous record of JPY 143 billion set in March this year. Foreign demand has now exceeded JPY 130 billion for four consecutive months, from March through June, with each month since December last year ranking among the top seven on record and continuing to trend at historically high levels.
